The Tribe

This rescue took place 6 years ago, when these 7 baby pigs, on exhibit at a pet “expo” caused Sue, one of our founders, to raise her usually demure voice in hot anger at the man who had brought them. They were tiny, not nearly old enough to be separated from their mom. They had neither shelter from the hot summer sun, nor water to cool off in the tiny pen where he had placed them. But like breeders everywhere, they were very “marketable” at this age, so what did he care about their comfort or futures?  Sue could not afford to buy them all, much as her heart pulled at her to do so. She was saddened to know she had to leave them behind at the end of the day, not knowing what would become of them.

Imagine her joy that night when a caravan of cars pulled up her long winding drive, and seven pairs of hands silently handed over a piglet to her care. Many more people had heard her than she knew.

Today the Tribe, (Wallace, Einswine, Aphrodite, Ophelia, Evita, Beany and Fawn), live up on the hill, secure in the knowledge that they are, indeed a family for life.
