Jerry

If anyone wrote down all the traits they would like in a pig, Jerry would probably be the pig described. He is happy, responsive to calling, sweet tempered, well behaved in a group setting, easy to work on if he needs a cut tended and generally just a very nice boy. When he thinks he is being ignored or left out of his share of petting or treats he will gently butt your leg.

Jerry's story is not one that you would expect to result in such an easygoing pig.

He was kept in a closet in a basement apartment for the first 8 months of his life. The college students that had him found hi  amusing then went home and abandoned him to die. Cold, damp and malnourished, by the time Sharon rescued him he was close to death. She nursed him to health over a 3-month period, then brought him here. When we set him down out of the van he put his head down and started eating grass, the first he'd ever seen. And he's never stopped enjoying the simple pleasure of grazing. Every morning he's up early and out to the pasture. Then a dip in the pond, weather permitting and a little sunning, then back to grazing. He has become a big boy, close to 200 pounds but not fat, just large.

A favorite pig around here, be sure to find Jerry when you visit here and give him a hug.
