Becky, Bonnie and Grunt

Becky and Bonnie came from an elderly lady in Georgia whose neighbors complained about the pigs in city limits. These 2 pigs were her delight and it broke her heart to lose them. I was living near Atlanta at the time and took them in.
But Celia was a stubborn lady and she wasn't going to be deprived of their company. Once or twice every week she would have her son drive her to my place and she would struggle with her walker and cane and get settled down with her pigs and brush them and talk to them all afternoon. They looked forward to her visits and would perk up when they heard the diesel truck coming down the driveway. Bonnie, a happy, perpetual piglet personality and Becky, the elder sister type, were both so happy to see her getting out of the truck.
While they were getting settled in, Grunt was found abandoned and he was brought in. An instant friendship developed between Grunt and the two girls and they have beame inseparable.
When I moved back to Tennessee I was worried about Celia not being able to see her pigs any more. By this time she was in a nursing home with several health problems. I shouldn't have worried. I hadn't been home a month when here comes the diesel truck up the drive and Celia grumbling to herself, struggles out and says "where's my pigs?" And continued to visit as often as her health allowed. She would spend hours and hours petting and talking to her pigs and the others in the herd.
Today I am sad to say, they are having the funeral for Celia Johnson in Covington Georgia. It is April 16th, 2000. A sad day for her friends at the farm.

Note: Becky died in the fall of 2001 after surgery for endometriosis. Bonnie, operated on shortly thereafter for the same problem, did well. She died suddenly in the spring of 2002, presumably of a stroke.
