Arlo

Arlo was living in a backyard near Nashville. He had never had pig feed, he was thrown scraps now and then. He had no place to sleep so he burrowed under a metal building to get out of the cold.   Imagine how miserable he must have been when the rain washed cold wet  into his hole. He didn't know what hay was, or a blanket. He had never been wormed or vaccinated.

When we  went  to pick this poor little guy up we found a wolf tied in the yard with him. What a nightmare for a pig. To be forever chased and bitten by his worst natural enemy.

We had to carry Arlo on a stretcher to the trailer. He could not walk across the yard. His legs were bent up under him like a rabbit.

Arlo was badly malnourished but not thin, just in sad condition. His legs are weak and often failed to hold him up. He lied down to eat.  His tusks were grown around and cutting his lip.

In spite of the horrible years he has known,  he is sweet and willing  and just a regular little gentleman. He adores his heated bed and all the hay.. he eats his Mazuri and snacks with delight. and doesn't complain too much when he gets his arthritis shots.

Pictures from when he first came in

We had only a rude shelter for him but he was so happy with it..

After 2 months on proper foods (Fresh fruit and vegetables and Mazuri youth feed) Immune system and digestive enzyme boosters (Juice Plus concentrate)  and Cosequin every day. Arlo yelling loudly for me to put down the camera and FEED HIM!! See how much more erect he stands, his legs are extended about 50% straighter than when he came in. I believe he may walk normally in time.

Today (2005) , a year and some  later, Arlo walks reasonably well and is very happily camping out in the hospital/special care complex.
