Patticake
…an opinion on everything
1998: Patticake
was brought here by Wilson County Animal Control a few weeks ago. She arrived
with an upper respiratory infection and a partially missing, flattened
tail. I speculate that she was caught in a door as she tried
to get out of her owner’s house or car and someone slammed it
a second too late. In spite of her feeling bad
and being in pain she was immediately curious about everything at this new place.
Young pigs are so quick to adapt to new situations that they are a delight
to have around. Unlike adults who grieve for their prior owners and lifestyle,
often for months, babies just bounce into their new situation with enthusiasm.
They may be a little scared but it is quickly overcome by curiosity.
Patticake follows everyone around
the yard, commenting on everything she sees. She seeks
companionship and will be very happy to get into the big pastures with the
other pigs when her quarantine period is over.
And JimmyDale, the yard pig will be very glad
to see her go since he doesn’t want to be her playmate. He
huffs at her and threatens her and she just
keeps following him, talking continuously. As a five year old, JimmyDale is too old to be
interested in all those "baby" things.
