2003 - Bart and Penelope

Kingston, TN

Penelope was an only child except for a dog and cat companion and she lived in the house. Her outdoor pen was too small to keep her in so she ran loose in the yard, always at risk from neighborhood dogs if not constantly supervised. We provided fencing for her new pen. Then one day we received a call from a pet store that someone had abandoned a baby pig there. We had less than a day to get this piglet before he gave him to "anyone who wants it" and in that part of the country that's not a good choice for sure. The baby would have wound up a meal for a dog or some other dire fate. So I called Shawn and asked her if she could take him and  foster him with her new pen and she said yes.  He first went in for neutering and then made himself the king of her home. and was dubbed Black Bart, as much for his attitude as his color! . What a spoiled baby he became! At first Penelope had nothing to do with him but it wasn't long before they became friends. When Shawn moved to Chattanooga she took fence and piggies and all and they now have a larger place to enjoy. Bart is a permanent piggy in her family now.
